Short animated documentary & web documentary

Sorge 87

What started as a short animated documentary became part of a web documentary
about the story of former Vietnamese guest workers in the GDR.
It’s a digital archive of personal stories, photos, videos and multi-perspective
memories intending to remember in a collective and inform particularly those
who have a similar story but were never told or due to biased reporting in media.

Clattering sewing machines, clattering memories.
In 1987, the Saxon city of Werdau needed workers for its textile industry.
Because of full employment the jobs were advertised in Vietnam,
as usual in the GDR at the time. Many came – some stayed.
Delicate fabric prints tell of this economically still prosperous period
just before the reunification. A Vietnamese and a German couple
cheerfully remember initial difficulties and cultural misunderstandings.
